Committee headed by Dr. Ahmad to find Deputy Governor

The government has issued an order to the authorities concerned to find a replacement for current Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank SK Sur Chowdhury.

Sur is one of the three deputy governors of the central bank and his post will be vacant from February 1, 2017, said the sources of Ministry of Finance.

The Finance Institution Division under Finance Ministry has already issued a letter signed by its Deputy Secretary Md Rizwanul Huda to the search committee for appointing a new deputy governor at the central bank.

The Dhaka Tribune has received a copy of the letter which read that the earlier formed search committee had been asked to scrutinize candidates to appoint a new deputy governor for the vacant post.

On March 16, 2016, government formed a five-member search committee to recommend candidates for the post of deputy governors at Bangladesh Bank.

The committee, formed by the Financial Institution Division, is headed by the Chairman of Bangladesh Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad.

Other members of the committee are BB Governor Fazle Kabir, Economist and Agrani Bank Chairman Dr Zaid Bakht, Director General of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies Dr KAS Murshid and Additional Secretary to the Financial Institution Division Md Fazlul Haque.

According to sources, Md Fazlul Haque has been acting as the member secretary of the search committee.

The present three deputy governors of Bangladesh Bank are SK Sur Chowdhury, Abu Hena Mohd Razee Hassan and SM Moniruzzaman.
